AT&T Joins WI LGBT Chamber of Commerce as Gold Founding Member

AT&T has long history of supporting LGBT community and providing a LGBT friendly workplace

MADISON, June 24, 2013 — As we celebrate Pride Month, the Wisconsin LGBT Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce that AT&T has joined the Chamber as a Gold Founding Member.

“We are excited to welcome AT&T as a Gold Founding member,” said Jason Rae, Executive Director of the Wisconsin LGBT Chamber of Commerce.  “AT&T has a long history of supporting the LGBT community, from providing an inclusive and supportive work environment to being one of the first Fortune 500 companies to adopt domestic partner benefits for LGBT employees.”

Since 2004, AT&T has been listed in the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Foundation’s “Best Places to Work” for LGBT employees and has received a perfect score on the Human Rights Campaign’s Annual Corporate Equality Index (CEI).  Just this year, AT&T was also ranked No. 2 by Diversity, Inc. in the “Top 10 Companies to LGBT Employees” and No. 1 on the annual list of the Best Corporate Citizens by CR Magazine.

“At AT&T, we have long understood, appreciated and celebrated the value of diversity.  It makes our company stronger,” said Scott VanderSanden, President of AT&T Wisconsin.  “As we celebrate Pride Month, we are proud to join the Wisconsin LGBT Chamber of Commerce and expand on our continued commitment to the LGBT community throughout the year.”

AT&T has a long history of LGBT support. Starting in 1975, AT&T became one of the first Fortune 500 companies to adopt a non-discrimination policy toward sexual orientation, and in 1999, one of the first to adopt domestic partner benefits for LGBT employees.

AT&T is also aligned with many other excellent LGBT organizations, and is a national supporter of the Human Rights Campaign, the Gay and Lesbian Victory Fund & Institute, the National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce, and the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force.

AT&T is proud to support organizations and projects that strengthen the LGBT community, including: launching the Live Proud campaign; donating millions of dollars to LGBT causes including scholarships to college-bound LGBT students; and partnering with the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN) to ensure a safe learning environment for all students.

“As we grow the LGBT business community in Wisconsin, we’re excited to partner with a great corporate citizen like AT&T that has long been committed to LGBT causes,” Rae said.

The Wisconsin LGBT Chamber of Commerce is an organization of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and LGBT-allied businesses, professionals and individuals throughout the state of Wisconsin.  It offers networking opportunities, business development efforts within the LGBT community, and educational programming to its members.
