Each year, the Wisconsin LGBT Chamber of Commerce selects a diverse and talented cohort of Wisconsin’s LGBTQ college students to participate in our Emerging Leaders Program. This program is an effort to help develop and prepare the next generation of LGBTQ professionals and business owners.
The Emerging Leaders Program is a mentorship program that matches qualified and talented LGBTQ college students (undergraduate and graduate) throughout Wisconsin with professional mentors belonging to the LGBT Chamber. The goal is to help students gain knowledge of the careers they’re interested in pursuing after graduation. This is a tremendous way to make sure LGBTQ students know that they can be an out leader in the workplace.
Matches will be asked to:
- Meet on a regular basis over the program’s course in person, via Skype, phone, etc.
- Develop mentorship goals at the start of the program to detail what they’d like to accomplish together
- Participate in in-person job shadow opportunities for mentees
During the program, we will provide professional development opportunities for mentees that mentors are also welcome to enjoy. These opportunities may include peer-led discussions, workshops on leadership, conversations on effective networking and more. The objective is to provide at least three opportunities for students during the course of the program..
The fourth year of the program officially started in September 2019 and ran until April 2020. Applications for the 2020-2021 Program will open during the summer.
